Grab Your Facebook Fan Page Username
by Aaron in Social Marketing and Facebook10
related articlesIt’s time to grab your Facebook vanity URL for the Fan Page! After setting up a Fan Page you might have noticed a super long web address. It might have looked like this: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Fond-Du-Lac-WI/wisnetcom/129681521915. It’s long, hard to type, confusing, won’t fit on your business cards, and isn’t the ideal address to forward to a client or vendor. We have a solution and here’s the official tutorial on how to get your very own custom username to create a short and sweet Facebook Fan Page URL. (Also known as vanity URLs.)
Who is eligible for the vanity URL?
First we are hoping that you have a Facebook Fan Page. If not, read the How-to Guide to Create a Facebook Fan Page. The article provides step-by-step details setting up a Fan Page. In order to be eligible for the vanity URL your Fan Page must have 25 or more fans. If you already have 25 fans then continue with the username tutorial.
First check your Fan Page to see if you have 25 fans.
Step 1: Facebook.com/username/
In your browser’s address bar go to http://www.facebook.com/username/.
Go to www.facebook.com/username/.
Step 2: Verify your account…
Not everyone is going to see the screen to verify your account. If your Facebook account already has been verified please go to step “6”. When you see “Before you can set your username, you need to verify your account” grab your cell phone. Then click Continue.
For those accounts that have not been verified click Continue.
Step 3: Confirm your phone…
Choose from Country Code: which will be United States (+1). Enter your cell phone number to the right of Phone Number. Then click Confirm
Confirm your cell phone number to establish your identity.
Step 4: Confirmation code sent…
After the cell phone number has been submitted you will be taken to the Confirmation code sent page. Check your cell phone for the confirmation code and enter it next to Code. Then click Confirm. If you did not receive the confirmation code, which happened to us (rrrrr frustrating), you will find out that after five attempts it won’t allow you to enter another phone number. We found a solution so keep reading. If it was received go to step 6.
Enter your confirmation code and click to verify your Facebook account.
Step 5: What to do if you did not receive a confirmation code…
Using your cell phone text the letter “F” to 32665. That’s it. You should receive a reply within a couple minutes. Then enter it in the code confirmation box on Step 4.
Step 6: Set a username for your Fan Page, not your profile…
Ignore the first option which allows you to change the username for your personal profile. Scroll down a little and click Set a username for your Pages.
Just below the Check availability button you will notice the Set a username link.
Step 7: Choose a Fan Page…
On the next screen choose the Fan Page from the Page Name drop down menu.
Choose a Fan Page from the drop down menu.
Step 8: Create a username for your Fan Page…
Enter in the username you desire and click Check availability. Wait! Before going too far be aware that once a username is chosen you can never change it. Double-check the spelling and get a second opinion before making your final decision.
Enter a username and click Check availability.
Step 9: Username available…
If the username is available the following screen will appear. It will warn you about changing and transferring the username along with a couple other notes. If your username is acceptable click Confirm.
After reviewing the warnings click Confirm to create a username for your Fan Page.
Success!
When the Success box appears it means your username has been accepted. Congratulations! Run around in circles and send Indian smoke signals to your friends to let them know of your accomplishment. Then click Okay.
You have successfully created a vanity URL for your Fan Page.
Conclusion
