08. We seek feedback for continuous improvement

We wanted to provide our clients with some updates about the email interruptions that were experienced on 9/15/09 and what we are doing to prevent this from reoccurring.
What the problem was: A firewall server at one of our data centers became over loaded.
The long term solution, which should be ready to be implemented in the next few days, will be adding additional firewall servers with additional load balancing technology to prevent this from happening again. In addition, more effective monitoring is also being implemented to allow us to better forecast such issues on the firewall servers.
The symptoms users may have experienced consisted of intermittent connection issues to the webmail interface and users connecting via POP or IMAP may have had slow connections too, or in some cases connections dropping based on their own mail client and network settings. Finally, for part of the duration of the issue, about half of the mail that was sent by any of our clients to another one of our clients may have been delayed up to thirty minutes.
Currently, services are being moved off of the firewall server now and to others in a safe manner to reduce the load moving forward. Additionally, we are making some technical adjustments and changes which will enhance the performance.
In the meantime, we have all hands working on this to ensure the issue remains resolved and that it doesn't persist.
I can assure you that this is a top priority for our team and we will continue working on this until the permanent fix is in place. We sincerely apologize for today’s issue.
